Ecogrid Ltd is a family business owned and run which was formed just over three years ago, in April 2013 by sub-deviding our two original businesses: Raincatcher and Ecogrid. We specialise in permeable flooring used in landscaping which is made from 100% recycled plastic produced in an environmentally conscious factory. We also are the owner/manufacturers of the Raincatcher brand of Rainwater Harvesting tanks.
We are passionate about what we do and we scoured the globe for the best solutions, ploughing huge resources into research projects and trialling and testing many products before we found our dream product in Germany, manufactured by the World beating also family owned Purus Plastics company.
At first we began to use the product in much of our landscaping work, and you may remember that the owner of Remington used to say that he loved the product so much that he bought the company. Well, his pockets were deeper than ours so we did the next best thing and worked hard to secure the sole UK and Ireland distribution rights and began importing it by mega road train articulated lorry loads. We now offer a range of 13 different grids, a huge range of accessories and have expanded our catalogue to include geotextile membranes and recessed manhole covers.
One of the greatest aspects of our flooring products are the sustainability aspects - the product has a zero effect on the envinment and zero effect impact in production, made from 100% recycled materials in an eco-friendly plant.
The fact that our products are made from 100% recycled plastic in an environmentally conscious facility has already allowed companies to achieve sustainable building awards and low carbon construction credits, conformity to the Considerate Construction Scheme, adhere to BREEAM regulations and to meet the government’s Sustainable Urban Drainage Solutions requirements.
We have also developed new ranges and diversified our products. In addition to the flooring grid system we also introduced recessed manhole covers available in a variety of shapes, sizes and weights. Applications include roads, warehouses, swimming pools, local parks, patios, restaurant kitchens, gardens and driveways.
Last year, we teamed up with Purus GMBH to distribute Terraguide and Bodenmat ranges of temporary flooring products for festivals, exhibitions and concerts. Earlier this year, we added Bloxx to our range, using the grid system to create unique combinations of concrete, grass, gravel and resin-bound stone to combat surface water and flooding issues.
Our business is growing quickly and we have already recruited and now employ twelve. We have received ERDF funding which will allow us to begin marketing our products in earnest, giving us the opportunity to further get the word out about our environmentally friendly surfacing solution. We are also very excited about being able to enter this award!
In addition to our commercial work, we are very proud of our local roots and have undertaken a number of community initiatives. For example, we supplied temporary flooring, completely free of charge, for the major unveiling of a war memorial in Birkenhead Park in late 2014.
We have begun to build close links with Liverpool University, which lead to us helping a student complete a dissertation based on Ecogrid. In addition, we are introducing new schemes to support and develop our employees and one has just started a new creative and digital media apprenticeship.
